I had totally forgotten that I had embarked on Marathon training back in December 2020 and even wrote a post - (how do you forget that?)
Apparently, I didn't do so well because I don't remember running any Marathon distance this year, in fact, the longest I've run is about 7 Miles - this can mean only one thing....I failed hahaha
Now, I have put it out there this time on Instagram and Facebook that I am going to do the 26 odd miles before my BIG 60 - which is careering towards me as we speak - so I guess this time I had better get on with it.
The original plan I was following was a 'Get You Round' schedule for the Over 40 Runner "those of you over 50 will have to adapt it to take into consideration your age"......hmmm, it does not give you any suggestions as to what these 'adaptions' are, so that is particularly helpful - do I just need to eat more doughnuts to keep my energy levels up?
There is a questionnaire entitled "Are you fit to run a marathon?". It contains a number of questions with regards to health and lifestyle and you score points according to your answers.
To embark on the Get You Round schedule, you have to score a minimum of 30 - I came out at 11 so I'm guessing I shouldn't do it?
Completely ignoring this, last week I completed 17 miles in total, not in one go, which is at the very low end of miles if the prize is to complete the marathon distance. Having looked at various other training programmes, some called 'Novice' 'Beginner' 'Senior' and the like, I have realised that there is no easy way of doing it, I am not a natural runner or a fast runner, I am at least 2 stone overweight and the wrong side of 50 but when has that ever stopped me?
This week is going to look like this:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run with group - approx 3m
Wednesday: 4m
Thursday: As Tuesday
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3m
Sunday: 8m
Total: 21m
....what it actually looks like remains to be seen!!
For those avid followers of my progress (probably only my mum) coming up I will be looking at topics like nutrition - pre, post and during training, what gear to wear, strength training, cross training and stretching - all good stuff - stay tuned!
Enjoy your week!
